Teghan Cantrell on riding for GB
My working days are always busy and never the same - there’s truly never a dull moment! I start with morning stables before riding my own horses and those of clients who are based with me at home on livery. In the afternoon, I head off-site to support external clients, either riding or teaching. If I don’t have any bookings, that time is reserved for a well-deserved coffee! I then return home to finish evening duties and tuck the horses in for the night. Somewhere within my packed schedule, I also film and create content for social media.
Every horse in my care is treated as if they were my own. Their happiness, comfort, and health are my top priorities every single day, and this always comes before training or competing. I don’t see horses purely as athletes - I see them as my pets. They give me their all every day, so I believe it’s only right that I do the same for them.
The highlight of my equine career so far was representing Great Britain at the Young Rider European Championships in 2025. This had been a lifelong dream of mine, and achieving it at just 21 years old was truly unforgettable. The journey wasn’t easy, but I wouldn’t change a thing, as it shaped me into the resilient rider I am today.
Before switching to Gower Granary, I used Hunter shavings.
I never imagined I would move from shavings to straw, but now I wouldn’t look back. Gower Granary straw bedding has allowed me to keep larger beds thanks to its excellent absorbency, while removing less bedding overall. This has also reduced my muck heap costs. Additionally, I rescued a Shetland pony who suffers from sweet itch, and since the bedding is completely dust-free, her skin has improved significantly.
